Return of the Cult of the Kraken Lord

These are the minis from the third of the Kraken cultist kickstarters by Midlam Miniatures. Midlam is a small company that runs small kickstarters with a set number of already sculpted, old-school characterful minis. They have done quite a few such KSers, and the ones I have participated in have all been very well handled, with good communication, good delivery and good quality both in the sculpts and castings. A+ would back again.

I painted the first set of the Cult of the Kraken Lord back in 2017.

The minis from the second KS I received in good order, then put away for safe keeping, and promptly forgot about. While writing this post I remembered about the minis and I have now dug them out of one of the storage boxes. Time to prep, base and paint them as well, so the whole cult can be together as one big, happy tentacular family.

They are really characterful in their simplicity and a joy to paint. I love how they are not laden down with unnessecary details or bits.
This whole lot was painted during the course of a single evening with the bases finished the following day.

I started from a black/grey zenithal undercoat and painted all the robes with a brown-grey-beigeish color called “Iron” from an old paint range by Hobby Games Products, later I drybrushed with Reaper Vampiric Shadow, then Reaper Vampiric Highlight. After all this was dry, a coat of Citadel Athonian Camoshade, re-brushing over the models with a damp soft brush to suck up pools and take some tint off the high bits. When this was dry, a very careful drybrush with the two vampiric colours finish the cloth. (They seem to be slightly washed out in the pictures, the cloth looks really good to my eyes IRL.)
The tentacles and hands were done in different colours. Shoes and bits in thinned grey.

Kalissa the Priestess

The end of the tentacles are actually in a different grey than the robes, it is just not apparent in the pics.

Knell the Signaller

Karm the Sentinel

Kulok the Harbringer (yes, they do spell it that way. Tut. tut.)

Khortum the Catcher

Krovik the Chalice Bearer

Keel the Free and K’rik the Released

Here I took a bunch of pictures from the top down, only to find that all of them were overexposed and useless. Win some, lose some. This cut out from the group shot will have to do. Their poses are best described as “prone”, so nothing much going on there anyway.

Khul the Reaper

Khurauk the Hunter

Kzaurk the Stalker

I made the hounds 25x50mm bases. Most of the rest are all based on 30mm bases of the same type I used on the minis from the first KS.

Just like shooting a cuttle of fish! Er, like a kettle of fish!

These minis are all made in metal and currently available from Midlam Miniatures

These minis were finished on Dec 12th, 2020.
