Me being a bit of a hoarder when it comes to minis, I naturally gravitate towards the kickstarters and patreons that offer lots of .stl-files for 3D printing. Now I still have not gotten myself a resin printer, mostly because of the apparent lack of resin availablitity these days. I will simply have to wait until the resin supply picks up, be it another month, another year or more.
However long the wait may be, I keep hoarding those .stls even though I know I will never get around to printing -much less painting- any more than a fraction of them. At least the stl’s don’t take up shelf space…
Some of the minis can be printed with acceptable results on my old Flashforge Finder PLA printer, even though there are print lines all over.
Here is one:
The Sand Golem from the 2020 Empire of the Scorching Sands Kickstarter campaign by EC3D.
An excellent depiction of a humanoid shape taking form whilst rising up out of the very sand covering the ground. Very simply painted with several sandy shades and a black rim around the base. Done!
50mm base, printed at 100%.
This mini was finished sometime last week…early July 2020.
Sand Golem

January: 32
Feburary: 19
March: 45 / 10
April: 41 // 1
May: 9
June: 20
July: 1
I think in the case of the sand golem the printing lines actually help with the effect of a bunch of sand grains coming together to form the golem.
Yes, I fully agree – one of the few examples of print lines being a good thing 🙂
